After serving in the US Army during World War II, he returned to comedy work as a writer, rather than as a performer. Since then, he has gone on to write a number of smash-hit comedies, as well as performing in or directing many of them. His most widely known works include, “The Producers”, “Blazing Saddles”, “Young Frankenstein”, “History of the World: Part I”, “Spaceballs”, “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”, and “Dracula: Dead and Loving It”. He has won a Grammy, a Tony, an Emmy, and an Oscar. In addition to his writing and performing work, he is also a successful producer, and has produced such films as “The Elephant Man”, “The Fly”, and “84 Charing Cross Road”.
